Sam and Chris Pick It Back Up Where They Left Off!

Well race fans, the 2003 Season has officially begun - finally!!  After a long, dry winter (well, with ONE notable exception!), and the obligatory first race snow out, Chris and Sam were at long last back where they love it the most! Once the hit the track, it was apparent to us that the changes and upgrades Sam underwent in the garage season were right on target!

Our heros were the fifth truck to qualify, and Sam blistered around the track over two-tenths faster than earlier qualifiers!  Chris held the quick time until our buddy, the #14 truck of Jimmy Donaldson, had to show us there was a wee bit faster way to do it!  When the dust had cleared, our duo held onto second and started the trophy dash in the old familiar back row.  But they didn't stay there for too long, and by the time the quick six laps were done Chris had pushed Sam into the third finishing spot!

The roll of the dice found our heros on the inside of row two.  Chris had Sam side-by-side with the #24 ruck of Mike Sandoval, battling for the second place spot.  Sam finally pulled away on lap ten, and the next 19 laps found our awesome twosome racing around with the #07 of Chris Leaf right in their shadow.  Chris was able to keep the spot right up to the very end, when the #07 hit the finish line first by a nose.  But that's racin' folks, and we'll settle for third place over crashing and not finishing at all any day!

So we are starting our season with a good finish and a third place standing in the points, and all we can say is hope it's this good or better every race!  And, thanks to all of the incredible support you showed us last year, we are once again giving you the chance to Put Your Name on ProTruck #61 and help us help the kids at The Childrens Hospital.  Sam is ready to haul those squares!!  And keep your eyes peeled for a couple of special events we are planning for this promotion this year, including your chance to win an awesome skateboard!

In the meantime, keep on doin' the SUNdance, and we'll...

Chris and Sam Bring Home Trophy Number 1!!

Hey - who wasn't doing the SUNdance???  April 19th was cold, rainy, and not for racing - but that extra week of anticipation might have been just what our heros needed to land in Winner's Circle (with some luck, of course...)

This time, the entire field qualified ahead of our awesome twosome, but Sam just wasn't interested in starting this dash in the back.  The 4th place quick time found our pair starting on the inside of row two, close enough to the front to make a serious bid for the lead in the shortened, 6-lap dash.  Although there was some shuffling going on, Chris and Sam held that third spot right up to the last lap - when the leader suddenly wasn't going so fast anymore, and the #2 guy had nowhere to go but into the back of the truck in front of him...and suddenly Sam was in a big old hurry to jump into the lead and shoot straight for that checkered flag!!!  And it only got better - the trophy presenter was Chris's little cousin, Jacob, who came out with Grandma to watch Chris and Sam!!!

And although we were all chanting - trying to influence the dice for that #1 spot for the main - the best we got was a 7, which found our heros inside of row 4 on the starting grid.  But Sweet Sammy wasn't happy there for long, and by the time 10 circuits had passed she was chasin' the leader!  Chris kept her right on his back bumper until the caution flew with only a handful of laps left to go.  The restart wasn't kind to our duo, and even though Chris pushed Sam hard and they were reeling him in, they ran out of laps before they could catch back up.

But we weren't too unhappy with a seond place run, because now our heros are in second place in the points and only four points out of the lead! Chris thinks it's time for Sam to start aiming for ludicrous speed once again, so he's been pumping her up for next weekend!  We are having a 50-lapper on May 10th, and our heros are ready to bring home the BIG trophy!!

So be sure to come and see us after the races next week to  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61 and help us help the kids at The Childrens Hospital.  Chris and Sam are ready to rock, so we'll

Ok Mother Nature - enough is enough!  May 10th was supposed to be a RACE day - not a rain day...and when the sun was hidin' behind them clouds on Saturday we were afraid she was toying with us again - but not so!  Although the skies appeared threatening all day, at least she let us race!  And we had a special reason to be racing this weekend - we'd all like to welcome our newest members - Kevin and Kim King and Precision Solutions!!

Sam wasn't too happy with the cooler temperatures and high humidity, though.  She fought us back and forth right on through practice.  And when it was time to qualify, well let's just say we know she can do better.  Chris held the bubble spot for a while - but when the dust settled our heros found themselves in the 7th spot - and only the top six ran the shortened dash.  So our duo ran their first (non-weather related) heat race in almost two years, and you can bet that put a damper on our evening.  Chris and Sam started on the outside of the second row, and quickly claimed the third spot.  But throughout the ten lap race Sam just wasn't her old self, and Chris held on for the third place spot.

The dice weren't so kind to our pair, either, and the roll found Chris and Sam starting in the ninth spot - inside of row five.  There were some strong trucks on the grid before them, and Chris knew that he and Sam would have their work cut out for them to get a top five finish.  The crew had worked hard to make what we hoped were the right changes to make Sam a happy camper when it was time for the main, and Chris was about to find out - up close and personal!  But once the green flag flew and Sam got some heat in her tires, Chris began to charge her up through the field.  By the time thirty laps were in the books, Chris had pushed Sam from ninth to fourth, and was beat out for third by a nose!  And I have to add that, once again, I am happy to report there was no wreckin' going on - the cautions that flew were for spins only!

Well, considering that our day got off to a rocky start, fourth place just wasn't too bad.  We fell a position in the points - to third - but hopfully Mother Nature will let us make some of our upcoming events and we will back in the hunt for that championship!  And the crew will be checking, double checking and TRIPLE checkig Sam out between now and June 7th - our next scheduled event - cuz whatever it is that she ain't happy about needs to be made right - there are quick time trophies ahead waiting for our heros!!

So keep on doin' the SUNdance fans - and don't forget to come and see us after the races on June 7th to  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61 and help us help the kids at The Childrens Hospital.  Y'all know Sam loves hauling those squares - and Chris loves seeing all of you fans after the races - so we'll

How Sweet it is!  Although the forecast was pretty gloomy (snow in June?!?!?), Mother Nature relented at the last moment and let the sunshine through!  And boy are WE ever glad she did!!!

Sammy made us work for it, too!  She was just not happy during the entire practice period, and although the crew worked frantically making changes, nothing seemed to make her better.  It showed, too, as our duo posted their worst qualifying run in a long, long time.  The disappointing effort put our heros on the pole for the heat race, and they stayed out front for the entire ten laps.  But then, something changed....

The dice that  usually put our pair in the middle of the pack were  kinder than normal, and the lucky roll (thanks Jimmy!!) put our heros on the inside of row two (Sam's favorite spot, or so it would seem...).  The crew made one last, drastic stab at makin' Sammy go fast - and we all sat nervously waiting for the main to start, wondering if she'd zoom to the front, or struggle instead.

When the green flag dropped, we all heaved a big ol' sigh - cuz Sammy remembered she LIKES it at the front, and Chris wasted no time in getting her there!  By the sixth lap our awesome twosome were in the lead and checking out fast!  Although the only caution (and subsequent EVERLASTING clean up effort) closed the gap between our pair and second place, Chris and Sam owned a spacious, comfortable margin at the stripe, and brought home their first main of the season!!!

Needless to say - everyone was happy that what started out so bad turned out SO GOOD!!!  Plenty of our fans came back to congratulate our heros after the races, and you all have helped to push our fund raising over the $600 mark!  But the crew still has some work to do - we like Sam best when she is fast ALL DAY!!!  That track record is still waiting to be broken - and Sammy is just the girl to do it!  So mark your calendars for June 21st, and come watch Chris and Sammy run the first 50 lapper this year.  Don't forget to come and see us after the races and  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61  -  help us help the kids at The Childrens Hospital.  We are bringing some white squares out, so if you already have a black one come on over and get it a friend!

The Racin' Gods were smiling on the Archer Racing Team this Saturday - but not with hardware.....

Sweet Sammy is still pullin' our chain - three practice sessions and more changes than you can shake a stick at and the crew still is wonderin' just what is her deal....and the 8th place our heros found themselves in after qualifying was not what we are used to!  The low truck count (only 15 showed up) eliminated the heat race, so the trucks went from the dash to the main, and the Lady Luck of dice once again decided that our awesome twosome would have to work their way to the front!  Chris and Sam started on the outside of row four for the 50-lap main event.

Chris wasted no time charging for the front, but contact in the early laps saw our heros shuffled almost to the back of the field!  Not for long, though!  Chris expertly guided Sam by truck after truck, and soon was closing in on the fourth place truck....

But meanwhile, the battle was heating up at the front between the 17 truck of Paul Deines and the points leader Chris Leaf.  The 07 tried to pass high and low, and then with only 12 laps to go...he spun!  Now our pair was solidly in fourth place, close on the bumper of third !  And although the 07 made a valiant effort to regain lost positions - his eighth place finish eliminated the points spread we had going in, and allowed our heros to tie for the points lead!!  How about that!!!  :-)  And thanks to Chris's talents - our heros have posted no worse than a fourth place finish so far this season.....

What a way to welcome our two newest sponsors on board!  We are proud to announce that Twin Peaks Aviation of Longmont  and Northeast Longmont's Fox Creek Beer, Wine and Spirits have joined our team!  And we'd also like to thank our manna from Heaven, Kevin and Kim King of Precision Solutions, for their hard work in bringing these fine folks on board!!  Please be sure to pay these folks a visit soon!

Well there you have it race fans.  And our next event is FRIDAY, JULY 4th - Mid-Season Championships.  A 50-lap feature is once again on tap for our awesome twosome, and the crew is busy in the shop hoping to have Sweet Sammy in top shape!  No pressure here, huh?!?

Don't forget to come and see us after the races and  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61  -  help us help the kids at The Childrens Hospital.  We passed the $800 mark this weekend, and Sammy is proudly toting 160 squares to the checkered flag!

Main: FIRST!!  YEAH!!!
And we thought the Racin' Gods were smiling on the Archer Racing Team LAST Saturday - but they musta not even been showing their teeth..... cuz the smiles they bestowed on us this weekend were so big we are all still blinded by the light!  The light of TWO - count 'em - TWO wins in the same night, followed by the most awesome gift of all -

THE POINTS LEAD!!!

Sweet Sammy spent alot of time getting torn down and re-assembled over the last two weeks - and once the dust settled and the last wrench was put away she was a whole new girl!  The first practice right out of the box showed us that our heros were more than ready to rock & roll,  and Chris powered Sam to one of their faster times so far this season.  Our dynamic duo ended up fifth quick, which put them on the outside of the front row of the trophy dash (and wasn't THAT a relief!! - no dreaded heat race!!).  Sammy seemed pretty happy to be up front - so happy, in fact, she wanted to stay there for the entire dash!  Chris had no problem keeping her out front, and our awesome twosome preceeded the rest of the field at the checkered flag by almost a straight-away!  Ok, face fans - WIN ONE!  But wait....there's more!

One of Chris's least favorite things is the ol' pill draw - and boy was he nervous!  But the draw wasn't so bad this time, and the four he pulled put our heros on the outside of the second row for the special Mid-Season Championship race.  The trucks in front of our pair weren't too interested in being passed by our heros, and Chris had to work Sammy for  the pass on the second place truck.  But he had to work her even harder to get by the leader, and at one point they made contact.  This allowed the 07 truck to skate on by - but with our awesome twosome stuck right to his heels!  Chris and Sammy chased and chased him, but couldn't quite get close enough to make a serious pass....until lap traffic came into play.  Four laps from the end, the 07 tangled with a lapped truck in turn 4, and some expert handling combined with some much-welcomed luck allowed our heros to drive right on by - and right on through to the checkered flags!!!  WOW!!  That was some darn good racin'!!  And two wins in the same night - on double points night no less.  No wonder we are all still smiling!!

And to make it even better, we had plenty of family, friends and FANS  in the stands to help us cheer our heros on - Chris's cousin Deyna even came to the track to celebrate her 16th birthday!  D'you think maybe she had fun??

Our next event is July 12th - just a short week away.  We love havin' you all come back and visit with Chris, Sammy and the rest of us, and Julie REALLY loves it when you buy one of her squares!  She and Sammy both want to see EVERYBODY buy a square for Children's - so c'mon out and  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61  -  help us help the kids at The Childrens Hospital.  We are closing in on $1,000 fast - only $25 to go!  So plan to come out and cheer our heros on as they race towards that championship - and we'll

Trophy Dash - 6th
Main: 6th
Well, well, well, race fans.  This was the most bizarre night of racing our heros ever lived!  Sweet Sammy finally remembered that she LIKES being fast - and our awesome twosome posted their best qualifying effort this year! Practices were used only to make a few small tweaks, and Chris & Sam were three trucks from the end in the qualifying line up.  Sammy's blazing lap put her on the inside of the last row for the usual shortened, 6-lap trophy dash...but we were all just glad to see her back in the thick of it!

The bumping and banging started early, and rather than risk damage that would hinder a good showing in the feature, Chris just stayed back from the melee.  Sammy was itching to go fast, though, and she was in such a good mood that the crew just left her to bask in her glory while waiting for the sun to go down...and the fireworks to start (hmmm).

Our awesome twosome started on the outside of row two, and Chris had her up to second in the first few laps.  But the caution flew early, as bumpingand banging led to three trucks going every which way - into the wall, across the infield and even a roaring fire on the backstretch!  The fire was quickly put out, and once the green again was waving Chris was knocking hard on the back door of the leader.  He made several moves to pass, but before he could make one stick, the third place truck sent our Sweet Sammy into a tailspin!  This resulted in another caution (this time for our heros), and both Chris and the 07 truck were sent to the back (yup - the same 07 truck that's chasin' our heros towards the BIG brass ring!) with only 8 laps to go.  Chris and Sam made short work of getting back into the thick of things, and were back up to eighth when another caution flew which saw the 07 going to the back.  Now our heros were faced with a four lap dash - and had made it up to sixth when pandemonium struck on the white flag lap - as the leaders tangled in turn three!  The leader ended up in the wall, second place was in the infield with third place, and the 14 truck, who had been running in fourth place, crossed the line first!  Chris and Sammy crossed the line third - we thought.    But the fireworks had only just begun....

As the competitors were leaving the track - we couldn't believe our ears - they were announcing that they were going to back up the finish to lap 29 - and that the truck still sitting up against the wall was the winner!  You shoulda heard the thunder - and the stampede of angry protruck drivers to the pit tower was downright scary!  The next thing we knew, security  was scrambling trying to keep order as tempers flared an accusations flew!  Insults were flying like bugs in the breeze, and we watched as the 07 truck was pushed to tech to deal with a motor protest!  Then the officials announced that this finish was unofficial - NASCAR gets to call this one race fans, and as of now we still don't know the outcome!

So at any rate, what we do know is that we did keep our points lead - spread it by two on second place - but for now we don't know how tight the race behind us has become.  So stay tuned, and when yours truly finds out exactly where we did finish, you'll be seein' it here!  UPDATE:  Yep, it's 6th - details at coloradospeedway.com

But on to some better news - we set a season-high of 44 squares this weekend, and let me tell ya Sammy and Chris (and Julie, too!) are pretty darn happy about that!  We are almost halfway to our goal, and all of you great fans, drivers and teams that have helped us to get this far have our heartfelt appreciation for sure!  Our next race is a 50-lapper on July 26th, so be sure to come on out and get your sqaure (or your second or third or fifth square!!!) and help us help kids when you  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61 !! - We wanna hear y'all cheering our heros on as they race towards that championship - so we'll

Alrighty!  Sammy finally showed us she remembers how to be the fastest truck on the track!  The three practices were spent fine tuning - and our heros were at the back of the qualifying line up.  Most of the times were in the higher 16's - 16.5 and up, until our awesome twosome blazed out and showed 'em how it's done!  And you can just imagine how happy we were!!  The (now standard) shortened dash saw our heros advance to the fourth spot, and the roll of the dice put Chris and Sammy on the outside of row one for the 50-lap feature.

Chris wasted no time in pushing Sammy to the front - our duo were leadin' the pack on the first lap.  But it appeared that the bumping and banging last race was still with us this race - the cautions were coming fast and furious with only a couple of laps of green-flag racing in between.  But each time, our awesome twosome pulled away from the pack - until on lap 38 a lap truck went high instead of low (like they are supposed to...), and the second place truck was able to get by our heros when Chris had to brake to avoid contact.  Although he drove his heart out, he was not able to make a pass stick, and our heros finished second - which was especially disappointing because the winner is the one chasin' our heros in the points!

Well, at least it was only 2 points - and you know the season ain't over yet!  Chris has been dreaming of this brass ring for a long time, and we sure ain't gonna let this one slip away!

We have to extend a special thanks to all of you fans that braved the rain after the races and hunted Chris down for an autographed picture of Sammy - goes to show ya just how special and devoted our great fans are!!

Well, our next race is on August 2nd, and another running of the Pepsi challenge is on the card,.  So don't forget to come on out and get your sqaure - there are only five races left this season, so don't miss out - and help us help kids when you  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61 !!   Chris and Sam are hungry for another win,  so we'll

Well this wasn't what we were hoping for, that's for sure!  Sammy was just a little off - and although she was fast, she just wasn't quite up to snuff.  The crew made several changes during the practices, and Sammy was happier - but not estatic.  Our heros qualified third from the end, and were only a little off of the quick time mark, but ultimately were bumped to third when the dust settled.  Starting on the outside of row two, Chris pushed Sammy but when the banging started he just kept her safe for the main - cuz that's the race that counts....

The ol' dice put our awesome twosome on the outside of row two for the main, and Chris settled into the third spot early, tight on the bumper of the second place truck.  But Sammy reminded him that she wasn't too happy, and teased him with good handling going into the corners, but not-so-good coming out!  Chris made several attempts to move into second place, but couldn't make it stick coming out.  Our pair was finally able to make the pass only after the truck in fourth spot banged his way through - with our heros in tow.

By this time the leader had pulled out a ways, and although Chris pushed her hard and was reeling in second, third was the best he could pull out when the checkers flew.  Bummer!!  And you can guess who finished in second - two more points closed in.....

But we have more racing to go, and this setback has made us more determined than ever.  So we have a slim 6-point margin now, going into our next event on August 16th with the next tour series race.  But we have HEART race fans!!!

So you better be sure to come and see us after the races and get your sqaure - cuz they are going fast!  We are going to have our 300th square on Saturday, ready for YOUR NAME, so don't miss out - and help us help kids when you  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61 !!   We LOVE seeing everyone after the race, so come on out and we'll...

Hey Race Fans!  Long time no see!  And let me tell you what - this is one "webmistress" that would like to personally tell you that anti-virus software sn't 100% foolproof!  But I think we are back in business (finally - whew!) and we got lots of catching up to do, so let's rock!

Well you probably all know by now that our heros are back in 2nd place in the ol' points battle.  Mechanical problems in the carb on August 16th found our heros bringing up the rear in qualifying, and the resulting heat race run saw our pair running in the back for the main.  But Chris and Sammy pushed it hard, and ended up 8th when the checkers flew.  But darn it,!  We ended the night 8 points back after that disappointing night.

August 23rd was the event that Chris waits all year for - Childrens Hospital Race of Champions.  Earlier in the week Chris and Sammy visited Childrens Hospital for the annual Media Day event.  Our dashing driver was paired with Radio Disney and KYGO Radio, and although neither team made it into the finals, Chris has a spectacular time!  It was his special good fortune to be teamed with our special little friend from TCH, Becca Lockler, and we couldn't tell who was more excited - Chris or Becca!  Even crew chief Dana got into the act - providing expert help to the KOSI team!  Chris signed plenty of autographs afterwards for other kids in the hospital who were too sick to come outside for the event.  Lots of the kids got to get up close and personal with our Sweet Sammy, too.  Then on Thursday and Friday, Chris got to talk on KYGO twice and KOSI about how important the upcoming race was for the research going on at Childrens to try and find a cure for childhood cancer.  Last year the event raised over$20,000!!!  Everyone at TCH was hoping for an even better showing of support for this year's race.

Although Chris and Sammy didn't make it to the winner's circle this year, our heros had a much better race than the previous week.  A qualifying time of 16.631 put our awesome twosome back into the trophy dash, and their fourth place showing put them on the outside of row two for the main.  after a couple of yellows that resulted in "interesting" calls - and the second yellow was because our heros were sitting backwards in turn four after being the victim of some over-zealous driving (who said "you don't win on the first lap"????)  We settled for a third place finish, which put us 12 points out of the lead.  But it was great in the pits after the races - Becca and her mom came back to see us, and plenty of our generous fans put their square on Sammy.  We can't begin to tell you how special and important it is for us all to help these great kids!!  Thanks to EVERY ONE OF YOU for putting your name on Sammy!!!

Ok - now on to August 31st!  Sammy was a chompin' at the bit during practice, and she let Chris know she wanted to be superfast right out of the gate!  Sammy spun off a blazing fast 16.493, and she was the only truck to get into the 16.4's!  The trophy dash checkers saw our heros crossing fourth (must a fourth kinda thing this month huh?!?), which is where they started the main.  And fourth was where they took the main checkers, too, Our heros had moved into fourth place during the main, but we all know Chris is a gentleman out on the track, and he wasn't able to make a clean pass on the truck in third place.   Oh well, so it goes race fans.  So here we are in second place, now 14 points out, staring Challenge Cup in the face.  But y'know what?  Challenge Cup is double points - so 14 points is only four positions, right???  And a lot can happen in 50 laps folks...so y'all keep on praying for our heros and just maybe.......

And now that our season is coming to a close, you don't have much time left to Put Your Name on ProTruck 61!!!  The tonnaeu cover is nearly full, and you can still get your square on Friday night's event - in time to see   your square helping Sammy reach that big brass ring!  You have all been great this year, and we can't thank you enough (did I say that already? Oh well - it's true!!)  So come and see us after the races on Friday, and get your sqaure - don't miss out - and help us help kids when you  Put Your Name on ProTruck #61 !!   So come on out for a great weekend of racing, and for one more weekend this year we'll...

Who says no good deed goes unpunished?  You know it race fans - our heros raced their hearts out all year, led the points and everything - and were so poised to take their very first championship...but sometimes things just don't work out the way you want.

Qualifying on Friday night saw our awesome twosome f ourth, and that's where they finished the dash too.  The weather forecast wasn't too good, and we expected that the all important Challenge Cup would be the following weekend.  But even though Saturday dawned cold and overcast, Mother Nature relented at the last minute and let us have enough sunshine to run our last race of the season.  The dice roll put our pair on the outside of the second row, and Chris had quickly pushed Sammy towards the front.  Meanwhile, back in the pack, the slicing and dicing had begun and the first caution flew early in the going.  Caution lap after caution lap followed, but finally our heros were back to green flag racing and had moved into the second position!  But then, only a handful of laps from the end, contact between two trucks further back in the field resuted in about a b'zillion more caution laps as the officials hashed and re-hashed whether or not the trucks involved should go to the back!  Well, they did, but those extra laps put our heros too close to the edge!  To make matters even worse, ANOTHER caution flew when a broken rear-end left a click down the front stretch!  Once the green flew again, with only 2 laps to go -  and with our heros in second place - it looked like the championship dream was going to become reality!

But it wasn't meant to be this year, race fans.  As our awesome twosome came haulin' it out of turn two, Sammy started to sputter and gasp!  Talk about the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in one fell swoop - we watched the championship slip away as our heros fell back in the field at the end - because our sweety Sammy had run dry!

And even though they still finished 9th - still on the lead lap - it wasn't enough to keep the brass ring we had been reaching for all year.  Our heros finished the year in second place, and although this was by far the best year we have ever had at CNS, we ended our season one dejected group.

So now our championship bid is behind us, and we are ready to seek out a new challenge - perhaps in a different venue!   We'll just see what transpires over the coming months...

And one more thing - we want to THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU for the amazing support you have showed us in our fundraising efforts for Children's Hospital this season.  Your generousity has resulted in over $2,200  to help fight childhood cancer!  And regardless of what we end up doing for next year, you can bet that we will have plenty of new squares to continue this awesome effort!!!

We'd also like to thank all of our sponsors for their support this season - we couldn't have done it without them!  We'd like to especially thank Kevin and Kim King of Precision Solutions for their amazing support this year - you guys are the best!!!

Speaking of sponsors, we'd also like to encourage you all to come out and visit Chris and Sammy one more time this year - on November 15th we will be participating in Fox Creek Wine, Beer and Spirit's Customer Appreciation Day!  Bring the kids for a barbeque lunch and visit with our heros!  Fox Creek is located at  1610 Pace Street, #700 in Longmont!  Hope to see you there!!!

So let's nestle in for the winter, and once we know what the 2004 season is going to bring you know you'll see it here first!  And come April, you know that we will...
